This RIO was built during time when, for the middle class, there was almost no food, supermarkets, fast food cafes, clothing or childrens stores in the district. Yury Luzhkov, the major of Moscow, attended the opening of this ground-breaking event. Today RIO competes with many other commecial and leisure centers here. The design of this RIO was part of an exclusive project resembling an ocean liner. The Pearl of RIO is an artificial water pond with live fish. Glass elevators, situated in the center of the complex, have thin fibers of water descending and dissolving into golden fountains. The center is divided into two parts: a hypermarket and two level commercial gallery for one part, and four levels of commercial galleries, food court, Captain Flint Restaurant and Cinema Star in the other part.
